The Post-Vacation Detox Dilemma
Hello!
As some of you may know, I recently went on a weekend getaway to Las Vegas to celebrate Ryan's 40th birthday that was back in December.
Our trip was filled with dancing, late-night shenanigans, delicious eats, shoe shopping, spa bliss, and, of course, some top-notch people-watching. So many True Religion jeans, why though???
Now, anyone who knows me understands that, whether by choice or circumstance, stepping out of my routine only makes me anticipate returning to the comfort of my everyday rituals.
As a self-proclaimed creature of habit, I find comfort and thrive in the predictability of my routines, not that they're anything fancy or elaborate, but they're mine.
I've spent years crafting and fine-tuning my daily habits to ensure they support my health and goals. With the exception of the ongoing battle against mindless scrolling...a work in progress.
The Bathroom Stall Wisdom: Detox Dilemma
While we were at The Sphere (seriously, so cool!), I went to bathroom before the show/experience started.
The woman in the stall next to me was telling her friend that she was planning to do a detox post-trip, and her friend agreed, I believe her exact reply was, "OMG, ME TOO!"
Now, I couldn't resist the temptation to eavesdrop (I mean, we're practically stallmates, right?), and I couldn't help but think about how many people are going to attempt a post-Vegas detox starting today...at least a few hundred, right???
Don't worry, I didn't pipe up from my stall and say, "Did you know that our bodies have several natural mechanisms for detoxification?! In fact, you just experienced one (peeing), or maybe two (pooping)"-- lol, could you imagine? 🚽
Don't get me wrong, I get that people wanna feel better, especially after a weekend of debauchery.
But you really don't need to do anything crazy IF you have a healthy-ish routine to return to.
Consistency > Extremes
I talk about this ALL THE TIME, but the power of consistency over the allure of extreme, short-term fixes will win every.single.time.
It's not about drastic measures like fasting for 24 hours, or buying a $700 7-day juice cleanse (yes, I've seen that) or swearing off XYZ foods forever.
It's about weaving healthy habits into our daily lives.
Post-Vacation Rituals I Swear By:
🛌 Sleeping in my own bed
😴 Getting a solid 8 hours of sleep
☕ Drinking greens + electrolytes with my morning coffee
🏋️ Resuming my normal training split (upper/lower)
🛒 Grabbing staples from the grocery store (Greek yogurt, bananas, berries, soup, greens, rice cakes, etc.)
🚶 Going for a walk
🥩 Batch prepping protein for the week
📺 Watching an episode of our current series obsession ('The Crown')👑
📖 Reading before bed
😽 Kissing my cats' cute little mouths.
What I Didn't Mention:
⤵️🙅♀️
Adding extra cardio as punishment
Cleansing or detoxing
Cutting out XYZ foods
Fasting for 24 hours
Starting the Keto diet
Because let's be real – none of those things ever last. And who wants to go back to the drawing board for the umpteenth time?
Healthy-ish Lifestyle: The Long-Term Game Changer
If your lifestyle is healthy-ish, you won't need to overhaul anything when you get back from your next vacation.
No frantic googling for the latest extreme trend, no guilt-ridden attempts at detoxing.
Just consistent, sustainable habits that align with your unique lifestyle.
Which will require some upfront legwork (effort and planning) to ensure they become second nature...I can help you with this!
The next time you and your friend are talking about doing a detox in the bathroom stalls, call me instead!
