The "Worth It" Factor

Hello! Happy Monday!

Today I'm going to talk about the language you use when it comes to food and your physique goals.

Do you ever find yourself thinking about whether a particular food or drink is "good" or "bad" based on how it may impact your body goals.

This impact may not necessarily be objectively true, but it could be a strongly held belief that feels deeply ingrained within you--totally valid.

What if I told you there's a healthier and more sustainable approach to making choices about what you eat and drink?

Instead of getting caught up in the labels of "good" or "bad," I want to introduce a different perspective - the "Worth It" factor. Let me explain.

When we label foods as "good" or "bad," it can create a negative relationship with food, leading to feelings of guilt, shame, binging, and restriction.

Instead of labelling foods as "good" or "bad"...

Consider whether a particular food or drink is "worth it" or "not worth it" based on your individual physique goals and overall health. Here's how you can apply this mindset:

  1. Mindful Choices: Before indulging in a treat or reaching for a snack, ask yourself if it's truly worth it. Will it bring you satisfaction, joy, and nourishment? Or is it something you're eating out of habit or emotional response?

  2. Balanced Approach: Recognize that no food is inherently "good" or "bad." It's about finding a balance that works for you. Sometimes, a treat or an indulgence can be worth it for the enjoyment and social aspect, even if it may not align with your physique goals. It's about finding a balance that works for you!

  3. Individual Needs: Everyone's body is different, and what may work for one person may not work for another. Consider your unique body composition, metabolism, and activity level when evaluating whether a food or drink is worth it for you.

  4. Long-term Sustainability: Think about the long-term impact of your choices. Is it something that you can sustainably incorporate into your lifestyle? Avoid restrictive or extreme approaches that may lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. Instead, focus on making choices that are sustainable for the long haul.

So, next time you're faced with a food or drink choice, ask yourself:Is it worth it?

✨ Ex. Maybe you've hit your sugar quota for the day, so going back for another cookie is NOT worth it.
✨ Ex. Maybe you only get to eat your Grandma's famous chocolate cake once a year so you decide that it's totally worth it.

There's no black and white rule with this concept, which is WHY I LOVE IT!

I'm not a fan of making hard and fast health statements, because we're all way too complex for that shit.

Sending strength + encouragement,

Alicia
